Mountain View, GadgetInfo - Wow, the competition between Google and Apple seems bigger. After entering the smartphone business, Google has also quietly strengthened its technology support with the acquisition of chip company established by former Apple employees. Is Google will use its own chips in Android-based cell phones and tablets?
Google reportedly has taken over Aglinux, start-up chip maker manufacturer. Pehub.com site reported, Google spokesperson admitted acquisition but the value to be paid is not mentioned. Aglinux activity up until now it is still confidential and the website has not been active. The website cache only displays a map and address of Aglinux offices located in San Jose, California. However, the New York Times mentioned that Aglinux has develop a kind of server and establish cooperation with Cisco and Texas Instruments.
The founders of this company are former employees of PA Semiconductor such as Amarjeet Gill, Mark Hayter, and Puneet Kumar. PA Semiconductor is a chips manufacturer that Apple acquired in 2008 by 278 million U.S. dollars. From that acquisition, Apple produces Apple A4 chips that are now used in iPad and reportedly also used a fourth-generation iPhone.
According to information in the website cache, Aglinux itself is from the word gni in Sanskrit which means fire and lux in Latin which mean light. Until now, it still could not be ascertained what was going on between Google and Aglinux. If not compete with Apple in the smartphone business, Aglinux probably will support the development of Google's servers.
